At Les Cognées, our mission has always been to provide our customers with an experience they enjoy. While it's meant to be a fun activity for everyone, we know that axe-throwing quickly becomes a competition.
So whether you're bringing friends, family or colleagues, we understand the desire to improve axe-throwing skills simply to show others that you've mastered the subject.
Let's take a look at the tips that can take your axe throwing to the next level!
1) Find your place
Something that matters more than people think is where you choose to stand and throw the axe. The reality, however, is that this location will contribute to the likelihood of you hitting the bull's-eye or not!
We suggest being somewhere between five steps and 4m from the target.
The spot you select should give you enough room to step forward with your non-dominant foot so that you can throw with your dominant hand.
2) A good grip
Now that you've found the perfect spot, it's time to get a good grip on the axe you're about to throw. We suggest you hold your axe at the base, like a baseball bat. The axe handle should form a 90° angle with your forearm.
Such a grip can help you gain precision when throwing the axe, which is exactly what you want.
3) Energy
Energy makes a big difference to the way you throw. Before releasing the axe, you'll need to have your energy gauge at its maximum.
If you're there with friends, ask them to cheer you on for the throw you're about to make. Soak up the energy and get ready to use it for your throw!
4) Get ready to launch
Once you've got a good grip on the axe, it's time to prepare for the throw. Lift the axe back behind your head.
As you do so, make sure your wrist and elbows are locked so you can throw that axe with some power.
As soon as you've taken up your position and feel this power, it's time to concentrate. Concentrate on the target that awaits you and where you want to hit it. Are you ready? Take a deep breath.
5) Axe throwing
You concentrate on the target, inhale deeply and exhale. When you're ready to throw, you want to throw the axe as if you were throwing a soccer with both hands.
Rather than letting your wrists do the extra work on release, simply release the axe when it's perfectly vertical.
Remember, keep your arms straight so you can transfer all that power into your throw.
To throw the axe properly, you need to make a shoulder movement. The wrist and elbow remain fixed. This gives the axe a stable, even rotation.
